This week our task was to develop a range of marketing collateral to support the launch of my magazine. The overall tone of the work should relate to my magazine design, and clearly repurpose that house style. This launch campaign is the first impression that the public will have of Trashion so I need to both capture their attention and establish the brand.
Below I have created marketing material that promotes the launch of the magazine, which includes posters, flyers, billboards and newspaper adverts. I also thought about how that the magazine would have a launch party for bloggers and industry professionals, so I have made some branding merchandise for this.
Marketing material
For my marketing material, I made them more or less the same design, however they just had to be made in different sizes. I did this so that the marketing was consistent, and if someone saw one form of the advertisement and then in another, they would be reminded that they have seen it before and they are more likely to remember it. I could have made different designs to make it more interesting, but I preferred the other approach. This means that the designs should be appropriate for large billboards, but then also small flyers.
For the design I went with a 6 horizontal line look. I did this mostly because the coloured (in this issue, pink) rectangles behind the headings of each article are recognisable when you read through Trashion. I paired the lines with the Trashion logo, "launch" and the date that it is launching, so that the line paired with the soon to be trademark font/logo are recognisable.
I used two lines of mirrored images to give a quirky, youthful look to the poster to represent Trashion. It also gives a "sneak peak" into what Trashion is about.
I think it is important to not give to much away when marketing the launch of something, so that the public gets excited to see what it is about and then go out and buy it.
I also added "vintage fashion magazine" in the timeless bold font which is the magazines subheading font, so that the marketing material does show what Trashion actually is.
I think that the white space used complements the design and keeps the colour palette minimal. I do think however that I could be more adventurous with my colour palettes and not use white backgrounds as often.

Poster design. This will be stuck up around or near universities, vintage shops and craft shops, which is where Trashion's target audience are likely to spend their time. |
This is an outside billboard design, which is square in shape. Because it is square I had to cut one row of mirrored images out, so that it would fit and look balanced. When Trashion's target audience are out and about, they can see this advertisement. |
This is an indoors advertisement which will be near the kind of shops that Trashion's target audience are likely to be shopping in. |
These are flyers that will be handed out around the places that Trashion's target audience are likely to spend their time. |
This is a newspaper advertisement. This can reach target customers that could be commuting, or are reading their local paper. |
Launch Party Event Material
I decided to create material for a Trashion launch party event, so that bloggers could attend and post photos of it onto social media. This way the launch is being advertised to even more people.
Launch invitations to be sent to bloggers and industry professionals. |
Front cover of the first issue to be framed inside the event venue, to show what the magazine will be like. |
Sign outside the event venue. I like the vintage look of the sign, as it shows the vintage part of Trashion. |
Tags to be put on free gifts inside goody bag. Eco-friendly and recycled of course. |
Goody bag made of recycled products to show the make do and mend culture. |
Free badges to be put in a bowl. |
Examples of labels on beverages to be at the event. |
